Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal 

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: this Blazers team is talented, but they don’t have a serious chance at winning an NBA title. 

In fact, at 19-21, this team may not make the playoffs. If you wanted to make the case that they should blow up their roster, you’d have a case to make. 

This deal doesn’t require them to do so. Realistically, no deal does. The Blazers could use these assets to retool around Lillard (again) this summer. 

At the same time, they could also just decide to rebuild. The Blazers owe their pick to the Chicago Bulls with lottery protection this year. They could move Lillard following this deal and make sure that pick doesn’t convey.
