Hachimura fits the description of players the Raptors like. Sort of.

We know this team has been stacking big, playmaking wings. Hachimura is a big wing, but he’s got more of a scoring instinct than Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, or Delano Banton.

That’s exactly why he ought to fit right in. Hachimura allows the Raptors to continue with their wing-heavy philosophy, but he also adds a unique dynamic to this squad. Moreover, he may benefit from a change of scenery.

If the Raptors don’t like what they see from him, they may not retain him this summer. That’s fine. At 18-23, this team is probably not in a position to offer VanVleet a big contract anyway.
