After all, the style they’re currently playing isn’t working. It feels like the fit between the players on this roster is suboptimal. 

We’re not saying that’s all on Russell – far from it. Still, he’s part of the problem. Russell is too pick-and-roll dependent to maximize the on-ball talents of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. 

By contrast, VanVleet is comfortable working off of the ball. He’s a better off-the-dribble three-point shooter than Russell. With that in mind, he ought to be a better fit for this roster.
