Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal 

Sending the Spurs a bunch of draft capital for Murray, only to take it right back for Young, may feel uninspiring to Hawks fans. 

To be sure, this is a concession of defeat. That shouldn’t impact the thinking of the Hawks’ front office. If Young truly wants a trade, this might be the best package they could receive. 

After all, it allows them to control their own draft again. There’s a lot of value in that. Moreover, it’s not as if they’re only getting their own picks back. 

They’re getting significantly more draft capital than they sent out. Furthermore, Vassell and Sochan are both quality young players.

The Hawks will have to decide between rebuilding and staying competitive following this deal, but realistically, they’d be set up nicely to do either.
