There was a temptation to go with a VanVleet for Kristaps Porzingis swap here. 

It would have made sense on Toronto’s end. They could sorely use a rim-protecting big man. If he doubles as a floor spacer, that’s all the better. 

Such a deal didn’t feel like it was in the spirit of the Wizards. At best, it would be a lateral move for them. VanVleet and Porzingis are in a similar tier of NBA players. 

Meanwhile, this organization has developed a reputation for marginal improvement, even when they’re not very good in the first place.
