In fact, Fred VanVleet’s performance this year may play a role in the Toronto Raptors’ shortcomings. 

He’s been fairly disappointing in 2022-23. Meanwhile, at 28, he may not be part of this team’s future either. 

That doesn’t mean he isn’t a productive player. Moreover, it isn’t hard to imagine VanVleet producing at a higher level alongside an elite half-court playmaker. In other words, pairing him with Luka Doncic sounds like a recipe for success. 

After all, the Dallas Mavericks are in dire need of a secondary playmaker behind Doncic. VanVleet would effectively be a late replacement for Jalen Brunson.
