Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Many would argue that a rim-protecting big man is a must for any competitive team.
The Jazz have one – he just happens to be a rookie. Walker Kessler has a lot of potential, but he’s not necessarily ready to make significant contributions to a winning team.
By contrast, Poeltl is. In fact, he’d be the perfect mentor for Kessler. Still, that’s not the main value in this deal for the Jazz.
That would be Poeltl himself. He’s one of the best defensive big men in the NBA. His ability to defend the rim and survive in space ought to make the Jazz a better team.
