Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

Frankly, this is a no-brainer for the Knicks. 

Quickley is talented. At the same time, he’s in his third year, and so far, his minutes have hit an all-time low. The Knicks don’t seem interested in developing him. 

In fact, development doesn’t look like a large part of their general plan. The Knicks insist on operating in win-now mode despite having a fairly lackluster roster.

Realistically, they’re just biding their time until they can trade for a star.

This deal lands them an asset to do exactly that with. In fact, given the state of the Lakers, this pick holds particular value – nobody knows where this organization might be in 2027.
