Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
The Hawks have been pretty unimpressive in 2022-23 as well. This team can’t be happy with its 13-12 record.
After all, they acquired Dejounte Murray this summer with designs of title contention.
Part of the logic in adding him was that his elite point-of-attack defense could cover for Trae Young’s shortcomings in that area. Why not acquire another elite point-of-attack defender?
That’s what Beverley is. Now, the Hawks would have more interesting options when staggering Young and Murray – they could go with an offense/defense dynamic between Young and Beverley, or field the best defensive backcourt in the league with Beverley and Murray.

With all of that said, even if it doesn’t work out, at least the Hawks are flipping Bogdanovic for two expiring contracts. That will give them more financial flexibility to make some changes this summer if need be.
Perhaps they’ll add one of the league’s many talented role players.
