The Knicks get the best player in this deal. From a certain perspective, that automatically justifies it. 

On the other hand, we know that the Knicks want to hoard draft picks to trade them for a star eventually. Anunoby may not fit the bill. Are we sure this is how they want to use their resources? 

Well, they’ll still have plenty of picks left over following this move. If a star becomes available, they’ll have a competitive offer to make for them – if they so choose, they can even include Anunoby in it. 

In the meantime, they’ll bring one of the best perimeter stoppers in the NBA on board.

Meanwhile, if Anunoby really does have the ability to shoulder a larger role, the Knicks could be getting a star player at a low price with this deal.
