Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
There’s a simple reason the Suns would do this deal. Crowder wants out badly enough that he’s not playing anyway. In moving him, they’re getting something for nothing.
On the other hand, they shouldn’t give him away either. It would seem that the Suns know that: otherwise, they’d have already found a deal for him.
Luckily, they’re not doing so here. In acquiring Beverley, they’re landing the lead guard off the bench that they’ve long been missing. Injecting him into this rotation at the cost of a player who isn’t currently in it will absolutely make the Suns a better team.
He may not be the lead guard some would picture for them. Beverley isn’t the type of sparkplug who can lead an offense.

On the other hand, he does allow the Suns to stagger Chris Paul and Devin Booker more routinely.
Are the Lakers sure they want to part with such a player?
