Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
There is an obvious reason the Knicks do this deal – they clearly don’t want Reddish in the first place.
Moreover, Reddish may not want to be in New York either. Rumors have recently suggested that he’s looking for a change of scenery. It feels like divorce is inevitable here.
If so, this is as good of a return as the Knicks will get for Reddish. Given his career to date, it’s unlikely that any team would surrender a substantial package for him. With that in mind, Kenyon Martin Jr. has probably flashed as much potential as Reddish in the NBA anyway.
Martin Jr. still has a ways to go in terms of skill development. With that said, he’s an absolutely elite run-and-jump athlete. If he’s properly developed, it’s not hard to see the framework of a strong 3-and-D wing who gives his team a significant edge during transition opportunities.
