Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal 

This deal doesn’t get the Bulls back in the lottery even if things go south in Washington. The Wizards can’t afford to send them an unprotected pick in case they do. 

Still, it likely nets them a first-round pick. The Wizards have been solid without DeRozan – there’s no reason to think they’ll plummet in the standings by adding him. 

For that matter, the Bulls may not sink too far following this deal either. They’re losing the best player in it, but at the same time, they could use the two players they’re receiving. Morris could be especially valuable here in light of Lonzo Ball’s frequent injuries. 

In other words, the Bulls are hedging their bets. If ceding more responsibility to Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic improves them, great.

If not, at least they’ve got a likely first-round pick and a swap to show for the deal.
