Granted, some of the same functional issues will exist here. Like Westbrook, DeRozan is best with the ball in his hands and has shooting limitations. 

Still, those limitations are less severe than Westbook’s. DeRozan is a willing three-point shooter, even if his percentage is subpar. If nothing else, he’ll keep the offense humming. 

He’s also accustomed to playing off the ball. DeRozan is apt at getting in position to score, and James is apt at finding players in their spots. This is a more optimal pairing. 

Meanwhile, adding Vucevic helps too. He’ll improve this team’s spacing, and any limitation he has on the defensive end can be offset by Anthony Davis.
