Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Markkanen’s surprise 2022-23 campaign has had much to do with what has been a surprising year for his team as well.
The Jazz were not supposed to be here. After a flurry of moves this summer, this team was widely expected to tank ahead of what’s supposed to be a historic daft.
If the Jazz have any designs of doing so, the clock is ticking. Other teams across the league have banked a lot of losses. At the same time, it isn’t too late for them to pick up some rebuilding assets.
This deal has them selling high on Markkanen. When they landed him, it’s doubtful that they anticipated they could acquire a first-round pick and a swap for him.
