Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

The Lakers do this deal to maximize the spacing around James and Westbrook. There’s nothing especially complicated at play here. 

Of course, there’s a defensive trade-off. Markannen isn’t nearly as impactful on that end of the floor as Davis. The Lakers need to pick their poison. As of now, this team is basically non-functional. 

Markannen’s superior floor spacing will be a huge help in that regard. Meanwhile, Sexton is only two seasons removed from putting up All-Star numbers.

The Jazz have been easing him back from an injury, but he’s looked good in the time he’s seen the floor.
