Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
In all actuality, the Knicks may have multiple motives here.
There is a world where this deal makes them better. If Ball returns to his previous form following his injury, he is a better defender and more reliable floor spacer than Brunson.
In fact, this deal does plenty to improve the team’s spacing. Vucevic is a floor-spacing big the Knicks don’t currently roster. What’s more, they currently have redundancy in Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein – both are solid defensive bigs who don’t space the floor.
Of course, it’s more likely that this deal doesn’t make the Knicks better. That’s why they’re getting a first-round pick in addition to the players they’re landing here.
