Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal
Of course, there’s a downside to rostering a player who doesn’t meet expectations. Their trade value declines.
This is not a great return for a recent lottery pick. On the other hand, it’s a fair return for a player who has played as well (or poorly) as Bamba has in his career so far. The Magic shouldn’t expect rival general manager’s to care about where they picked him in the draft.
Meanwhile, this deal brings in another player who may thrive with a change of scenery. Dalano Banton isn’t a household name, but he’s an intriguing talent. As a 6’9 point guard, he fits the jumbo playmaker archetype that so many teams covet.
Otherwise, Young may not be of much interest to this rebuilding team. On the other hand, he is a solid veteran mentor to have around the Magic’s young roster.
