Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
If any player embodies the incomplete 3-and-D wing, it’s Thybulle. He’s all D, no 3.
It’s a problem. Thybulle doesn’t have NBA-level offensive abilities – that’s a harsh reality. On the other hand, he’s one of the best defensive players in the NBA.
By contrast, Niang is a subpar defender who offers extremely reliable floor spacing. By acquiring the two, the Mavericks are effectively trying to piece together one 3-and-D wing.
That’s fine. After all, Bullock doesn’t offer much on either end at the moment. We said he retains defensive value, and that is true – but as he ages, it’s not what he used to be.

If nothing else, the Mavericks add a quality shooter to their rotation here, and if Thybulle can start connecting from distance, they’re probably landing the most effective players in the trade.
Of course, an obvious question emerges here. If Bullock is playing so poorly, why would the Sixers acquire him?
