Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
Cutting ties with Davis won’t be easy for the Lakers. It wasn’t long ago that he was LeBron James’ co-star on a title run.
Yet, it feels like a decade ago. Since that time, the Lakers have acquired Russell Westbrook – and missed the playoffs in the process.
Sure, Westbrook shoulders much of that blame. At the same time, the combined spacing between him and Davis is a problem in its own right.
Of course, this deal only marginally improves the Lakers’ spacing. Still, Green is an upgrade over Davis in that regard. More broadly, this is a general attempt to shake things up on the Lakers’ part.

If it doesn’t work, at least they’ll have a first-round pick to show for it. The rationale for the Lakers here is simple. Things couldn’t get worse, so why not make a trade in an attempt to make them better?
