Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal 

Collins may be the best player involved in this deal. He may not be the best player for the Hawks. 

If you haven’t heard, Trae Young is a bad defender. Frankly, he’s one of the worst in the NBA. With that in mind, the Hawks need to cater their roster around his weaknesses. 

Crowder is one of the best 3-and-D wings in the NBA. Furthermore, the Hawks run their offense through Young and Dejounte Murray – they don’t need Collins’ wider range of offensive abilities as much as they need Crowder’s defense. He is a better fit for this group. 

Just as importantly, the Hawks get a draft pick here. After sending out three first-rounders to acquire Murray, that’s essential. All told, this deal is worth the price of Collins for the Hawks.
