Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Derrick Rose is averaging a career-low in minutes per game. That feels like a sensible place to start.
Moreover, that makes sense. The Knicks acquired Jalen Brunson this summer. At this point in each’s career, it’s fair to say that Brunson is a significantly more productive player. Meanwhile, Rose is effectively squeezed out of the rotation.
If the Knicks aren’t going to play Rose anyway, they may as well trade him. In all likelihood, Robinson won’t see much more time in their rotation. That’s fine – in essence, they’re not trading for Robinson here.
They’re trading for a first-round pick. Meanwhile, Robinson’s contract may be bad, but it’s not prohibitively expensive either.

With that in mind, should the Heat really move him just to get off of his contract?
