Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
It absolutely does.
Following this deal, the Wolves would likely shift Karl-Anthony Towns back to his former role as a permanent center. Of course, we’ve already seen him in that role, and as stated, he struggled to guard the interior.
Boucher and Birch both help that cause as solid weak-side shot blockers. On the other hand, it would be foolish to claim this deal improves the Wolves’ defense. Trading Rudy Gobert is very unlikely to accomplish that task. With that said, perhaps they’d be better off simply leaning all the way into offense.
If they wanted to do so, VanVleet would be a fantastic acquisition. He’d instantly slot in as this team’s starting point guard, allowing the Wolves to move D’Angelo Russell into a sixth-man role.
