Utah Jazz Receive: F Kevin Durant
Frankly, this deal looks a lot like most modern deals for superstars in the NBA. The team parting with the star player is receiving a massive amount of draft capital in exchange.
Of course, the Brooklyn Nets know all about it. If anything, they may be trendsetters in that regard. After all, the trade they made to acquire James Harden from the Houston Rockets was ahead of its time.
In total, the Nets sent the Rockets seven unprotected first-round picks and/or pick swaps. It was the largest amount of draft capital to exchange hands in NBA history. Whether it was a good deal for either side won’t be determined for a long time.
After all, the Rockets can’t fairly assess their end of the trade until each of those picks has conveyed.

Meanwhile, the Nets can’t say it was a good decision until Ben Simmons, who they’ve since acquired in exchange for Harden, plays a key role in their pursuit of an NBA championship.
Does this deal land them enough draft capital to abandon that pursuit?
