Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
The Warriors have at least two incentives to get this deal done: the present and the future.
At the present, Adebayo is the best player in this deal. In some respects, he’s like a supercharged version of Green. He offers plus playmaking in the front court along with elite, versatile defense.
Of course, there are off-court reasons to make this deal as well. Everyone knows Draymond Green punched Jordan Poole in the face in practice. Bringing in a new player without that preexisting tension offers the Warriors a fresh start on what’s been a rough 2022-23 season.
Finally, there are those future motivators. Adebayo is locked into a long-term deal.

Granted, it’s an expensive one, but due to Green’s veteran status, it’s cheaper than the extension Green will be eligible for – and expecting. This deal helps the Warriors tidy up their books, and possibly improve in the process.
The fact that it brings in a player who should fit with them perfectly doesn’t hurt either.
