Don’t look now, but the Wizards may be better than you expected this season. 

At the moment, they sit 3-1. Meanwhile, they made some quality moves between the last deadline and this summer that improved the team. Some fans may have had them tanking, but as of now, they look too good to do so. 

In that event, they might as well shift gears. Yes, this deal guts them of their draft capital. Counterpoint: who cares. It also lands them James Harden. 

Harden would take over as this team’s starting point guard. Realistically, that’s been his position for several years now anyway. Moreover, Beal’s abilities as a hybrid on-ball / off-ball player ought to complement him perfectly.
