Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
If Washington is a perfect fit with Simmons, starting Nets big man Nic Claxton may be the opposite.
As a non-shooting big man, Claxton does no favors to Simmons. A pick-and-roll between them is practically a non-option. In fact, it’s difficult to understand why the Nets acquired Simmons in light of their current roster construction.
If anything, he may simply have been the most valuable player they could get in exchange for James Harden. Fair enough. Still, after a 1-2 start to the season, the Nets have to be wondering whether the group they’ve assembled is suited to play together.
Hayward feels like a better fit for this roster. He’s not an elite playmaker, but he is a good one. More importantly, he spaces the floor for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Finally, getting a little draft capital is always a benefit for a franchise that has very little of it. If the Nets are lucky, they’ll be able to use the pick to draft an elite playmaker.
