Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal

If LeBron James is a moral human being, he hasn’t proven it yet. 

Early into the 2022-23 season, James looks every bit the perennial MVP candidate that he always has. Still, the Suns are taking a risk here. This is a lot of draft capital to give up for a 38-year-old, not to mention Ayton. 

Moreover, Chris Paul is the same age. The Suns would be putting a lot of eggs in a rapidly aging basket here. On the other hand, if James maintains his current level of play through 2022-23, that will be a risk worth taking. 

After all, adding him to this core at Ayton’s expense should make the Suns serious title contenders. Moreover, Ayton wouldn’t be too difficult to replace at budget – the Suns can find a rim-running, rim-protecting big man at cost.
