Los Angeles Lakers Receive: C Deandre Ayton, G/F Landry Shamet, 2023 First-Round Pick (PHO), 2025 First-Round Pick (PHO), 2027 First-Round Pick (PHO)
Phoenix Suns Receive: G/F LeBron James
Something feels wrong about including James in a trade proposal. It almost feels dirty.
Nobody’s ever traded LeBron James before. How could they? James is one of the best players in NBA history, and plenty of fans would argue that he’s one of one.
As a general rule, you don’t trade a player who’s in the “best of all time” conversation.
The Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t consider it – during either of James’ tenures with the team. Neither did the Miami Heat. Generally, trading James has been as unthinkable as launching a nuclear weapon.

The Lakers may want to prepare the launch sequence. After all, James has never publicly requested a trade, either.
If the Lakers finish in the lottery again this year (and send another lottery pick to the Pelicans), we wouldn’t be surprised if that was exactly what happened.
In that event, is this a good return for the Lakers?
