Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
Keep an eye on the Wizards this year. Their decisions could heavily influence the season’s highly anticipated tank-off.
If they continue winning games, they’re unlikely to participate. After all, this front office has generally shown opposition to rebuilding. Moreover, if they start to lose, they could finally move Beal and trigger a wholesale rebuild. On the other hand, half-measures could be acceptable too.
After all, the Wizards have done plenty of losing in recent years. What’s the logical endpoint of downgrading their roster? It would have to be more losing, right?
That’s the main purpose of this deal. The Wizards would be hoping to maximize their lottery odds while retaining Beal. If they’re lucky, they could, for example, add Victor Wembanyama or Scoot Henderson to a team already featuring an All-Star.
