Unfortunately, it’s for all the wrong reasons. Last year’s 34-win performance was one of the most disappointing in NBA history. Meanwhile, the Lakers are off to an 0-3 start in 2022-23. At this point, they run the risk of repeating that disappointment.
There’s plenty of debate around the source of this team’s shortcomings. The general consensus places the bulk of the blame on Russell Westbrook.
Fair enough. On the other hand, a vocal minority will point out that Anthony Davis’ availability and poor shooting have been a problem for them as well.

While that’s true, it’s hard to pin the team’s 0-3 start on Davis. His play has been excellent. Yes, he’s still shooting poorly, but as a big man, that’s not one of his primary responsibilities. Davis has resumed his place as a dominant inside scorer and overall two-way force.
By contrast, Westbrook’s play has been dreadful. Should the Spurs really target him?
