Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
If you want to take this proposal as an indictment on Jusuf Nurkic, you’re entitled to do so.
We’re not saying the Bosnian bruiser is devoid of talent. On the other hand, he’s limited. Nurkic’s slow feet can make him a liability on the defensive end of the floor. If the Blazers want to seriously compete this year, they could use a defensive upgrade at the 5.
Mitchell Robinson would surely qualify. In fact, he’s one of the best drop-coverage big men in the NBA. Moreover, adding him could allow the Blazers to use Nurkic as a sixth man. In all likelihood, he’d feast on reserve bigs on a nightly basis.
Furthermore, having two quality bigs would offset Robinson’s unfortunate tendency to foul. If he can shed that trait in 2022-23, this deal would be huge for the Blazers.
