Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
The Sixers do the deal to add an elite floor-spacer alongside their elite playmakers. The question is, are they giving up too much to do so?
We’d suggest that they are decidedly not. In 2021-22, the Sixers struggled to keep Thybulle on the floor throughout the playoffs. He’s one of the best defenders in the NBA but offers virtually zero value on the offensive end of the floor.
Meanwhile, losing Melton will sting. He’s a solid playmaking guard. On the other hand, between Harden, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, the Sixers have sufficient playmaking. Adding an elite floor-spacer feels like a higher priority.
Hield is among the league’s best. His off-ball gravity will make it harder for opponents to double-team any of the Sixers’ star trio.

Realistically, that’s a large part of a floor spacer’s job description.
Are the Pacers getting enough back for such a useful player?
