Why The Houston Rockets Do The Deal
Largely, the Rockets do this deal to add Jovic. They’re a rebuilding team, and he’s a young player with great upside.
In fact, he’s a playmaking forward in the same vein as Tate. He may not have his defensive chops, but he’s probably a more creative passer and projects as a more reliable floor spacer.
With that said, don’t discount the importance of Dedmon to the Rockets here. Sure, they’re a rebuilding team who’s unlikely to target veterans. Still, getting their young core accustomed to playing with a center in Dedmon’s mold could have benefits as well.
After all, there have been questions about presumed starter Alperen Sengun. He’s a tremendously creative playmaker in his own right, but he’s a weak defender and a poor pick-and-roll finisher.
