NBA historians know that while Martin was selected in the second round, someone close to him was the subject of a much bigger decision. 

In fact, his father, Kenyon Martin, was selected first overall in the NBA draft. Yet, there’s some irony here. While Martin Jr. has exceeded expectations, his father fell a little short of his. 

That’s not to say Martin didn’t have a productive NBA career. He did. Martin was a hyper-athletic forward who provided tremendous defensive value and strong inside finishing.

With that said, he simply didn’t provide the expected value of a first-overall pick.
