Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
From a basketball perspective, there is every reason to wonder whether the Knicks might reunite with Porzingis.
In some ways, this comes down to Julius Randle’s jump shot. In 2020-21, it fell with tremendous regularity. In fact, Randle was one of the most efficient three-point shooting forwards in the NBA. In 2021-22, his accuracy plummeted.
That was a massive problem for the Knicks. Did it have to be? Or, did playing alongside a non-shooting big man in Mitchell Robinson exacerbate the problem? If Randle played alongside a center who spaced the floor, just his willingness to shoot would be a positive – even if he has another down season.
After all, the Knicks would have five-out spacing. Adding Porzingis gives them exactly that. Moreover, it does so without giving up too much of the rim protection that Robinson provides.

Finally, Rose is expendable too, as the Knicks acquired Jalen Brunson this summer.
Should the Wizards part with the 7’3 big man already?
