Relationships are a two-way street. If someone doesn’t want to be with you, you shouldn’t want to be with them either. The relationship between an NBA team and its players is no exception.
Of course, it’s not that simple. Sometimes, love is unrequited. Still, the point stands. If a person doesn’t want to give you anything, why should you give anything to them?
If a player starts to feel like his team doesn’t value him, he should try to find his way to a new team.
Similarly, if a player requests a trade, a team should honor it. Having a player on your roster who doesn’t want to be there can have very negative consequences.
