Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
The Hornets have a few motivations for making this deal, and none of them involve improvement in 2022-23.
After all, if there was a year to tank, this would be it. Even after Wembanyama, there’s a plethora of talent in the upcoming draft class. Meanwhile, the Hornets were disappointing in 2021-22 and lost Miles Bridges this summer. They may not be very good no matter how hard they try this season.
Of course, that’s also a good reason to save money. Here, the Hornets are flipping a big contract for an expiring one (LeVert) and a small one. Moreover, that small one could be a long-term piece.
Isaac Okoro still holds plenty of upside. He’s already a decent defensive wing – if his shot ever comes around, he’ll be a quality player in this league.
