Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Some Bulls fans won’t like this suggestion. Realistically, there will always be fans opposed to a tank job. Still, the Bulls are not well-positioned to start one.
After all, they don’t own their own 2023 first-round pick. It belongs to the Magic as a result of the aforementioned Vucevic trade. In other words, Magic fans would jump for joy if this trade occurred.
That holds especially true in light of the upcoming draft. As it stands, the NBA world is abuzz about top prospects Victor Wembenyama and Scoot Henderson.
Still, the upcoming draft isn’t only top-heavy: it’s deep. Players like Amen Thompson, Cameron Whitmore, Nick Smith, and others all have franchise-altering potential. Without access to that talent pool, why would the Bulls blow it up?

Well, there will be other drafts. Cameron Boozer looks pretty good, for example. If this trade portends other future-focused moves for the Bulls, they can orchestrate a rebuild without Wembenyama or Henderson – just as every rebuilding team but two will have to do.
Alternatively, the Bulls don’t have to rebuild entirely, either. For what it’s worth, they’ll still have Zach LaVine on this roster.
Armed with two new first-round picks, they could swing another trade for his new co-star down the road. Should the Suns really part with these assets?
