Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
We’ll be honest – this is a ho-hum deal for the Spurs. Realistically, they could take it or leave it.
For what it’s worth, they are receiving the youngest player in the trade. Luke Kennard is an outstanding floor spacer. Still, at 26, he’s not exactly young enough to be on the Spurs’ timeline.
If anything, the Spurs do this deal because roster turnover hurts – or in their case, helps. Simply bringing in new players can lead to an adjustment period. During that adjustment period, the Spurs could rack up a lot of sweet, sweet losses.
Meanwhile, Kennard would be a likely trade candidate leading up to the deadline. Finally, the second-round pick the Spurs are receiving here should make the deal worth their trouble.
