Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
Well, technically, this deal doesn’t have the Suns rebuilding. We’d consider it more of a retooling process.
After all, Chris Paul is 37. Meanwhile, teammates Deandre Ayton, Devin Booker, and Mikal Bridges are 24, 25, and 26. One of these things is not like the others.
The Suns don’t need to rush to move Paul for that season. If they have a strong start in 2022-23, this would be the wrong decision. On the other hand, if they’re showing signs of regression, they might want to consider moving Paul.
This would be a good return for him. Yes, Fultz is injury prone, but Paul is old and on an expensive longterm contract. All told, Fultz would likely draw more interest in the open market. That’s why the Suns are sending out a pick swap as well.

It should be worth it. In Fultz, they’re getting a 34-year-old with strong playmaking chops and room to improve. No, he hasn’t lived up to the expectations set for him as a number one pick, but on Phoenix, he wouldn’t need to. This offense is built around Devin Booker: Fultz is more than talented enough to be his second fiddle.
With that in mind, should the Magic really give up on him?
