Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Some Bulls fans would be frustrated by this trade. In fairness, it does fly in the face of every move they’ve made in recent years.
When the Bulls traded for Nikola Vucevic in 2020-21, they gave up plenty of future assets. It became obvious that this organization was focused on the present. When they signed DeMar DeRozan the following summer, they hammered that point home.
None of which should preclude the Bulls from making this move.
Lonzo Ball’s injury may change things in Windy City. Suddenly, this Bulls group looks old and somewhat mediocre. Perhaps we’re underestimating them – the combined star powers of Zach LaVine, DeRozan, and Vucevic could be enough to power them to wins, especially after another summer to gel.
Still, if the Bulls get off to a slow start, it won’t be hard to justify rebuilding measures.

In that event, this is a good deal for them. These two Lakers picks are some of the most valuable potentially available assets in the NBA at the moment. The Bulls could use them to land LaVine a new co-star, or, move LaVine in a separate transaction and begin a wholesale rebuild.
Either way, if they’re in need of change, this is a good move for them. What does it do for the Lakers?
