Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
In some ways, the Hawks are in a weird place. This roster is talented but somewhat ill-fitting. More significantly, it’s young.
With that said, the organization has signaled its intentions. Having parted with three first-round picks and a swap to land Murray, the Hawks are clearly in win-now mode. With that said, Ayton isn’t the most obvious compliment for them, either.
After all, there are concerns about Murray’s fit with Young, and they all have to do with spacing. Murray is a poor three-point shooter, so the Hawks will have to get creative to maximize him when Young has the ball.
Bringing in the non-shooting Ayton doesn’t solve that. On the other hand, the Hawks already intended on entering the season with the non-shooting Capela.

Evidently, the organization is banking on Murray to improve as a shooter with less defensive attention being paid to him. If they believe they can space the floor even with a non-shooting big, this is a good deal for them.
After all, Ayton is considerably younger than Capela. He has much more upside. Meanwhile, Crowder is a better defender than Collins – he could actually be an upgrade for the Hawks in the short term. What does this deal do for the Suns?
