Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
Don’t look now, but the sky may be falling in Phoenix.
Anyone who watched this team’s media day presser probably came away with a similar impression about Deandre Ayton. This man does not seem happy. Perhaps he’s still angry about the Suns’ apprehension in regards to extending his rookie contract this summer.
Meanwhile, Jae Crowder seems to have formally requested a trade as well. Finally, you’ve likely heard about the controversy surrounding soon-to-be former team owner Robert Sarver. We won’t rehash those needless details, but needless to say, there is some trouble in the paradise that is Phoenix.
This deal has the Suns getting ahead of the problem. They won’t make it tomorrow – in fact, they can’t. Devin Booker isn’t eligible to be moved until December 17.

On the other hand, if the Suns are underperforming leading up to the deadline, they may see fit to start over. This could be one in a series of deals. Mikal Bridges would fetch a significant return.
Chris Paul should still retain some value as well. Finally, the Suns could shop Ayton, but perhaps he might be happier as their new cornerstone.
Either way, if the Suns do launch a rebuild this year, they’ll start by shopping Booker. Is he the right target for the Knicks?
