Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

Frankly, it’s hard to be sure this deal would improve the Knicks in 2022-23. 

Say what you want about Randle. Surely, some Knicks fans would need to be asked to refrain from cursing before doing so. Still, he projects as the most talented offensive player on the Knicks in 2022-23, with all due respect to Jalen Brunson. 

This deal is less about 2022-23, and more about the future for New York. They’re getting off of Randle’s contract in exchange for two expiring deals. That’s perhaps the biggest benefit for the Knicks here, but they’re also bringing in quality role players. 

If either of Crowder or Saric are happy in New York, they’ll have the inside track on retaining them beyond next season.

If, as the Knicks have long seemed to be intent on doing, they land a superstar via trade, Crowder and Saric will be better to compliment them than Randle. 

In other words, this could be part of a two-step plan to improve the Knicks in terms of both talent and fit.
