Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal
For the Suns, there is considerable risk involved here. This deal raises their ceiling, but it lowers their floor.
It’s worth noting that, in 2020-21, Randle was one of the best three-point shooting forwards in the entire league. If he could replicate that performance in Phoenix, this would be an incredible deal for them.
On the other hand, if he brings his 2021-22 shooting to the table, it could be a disaster.
Let’s just ignore that possibility. Jokes aside, Randle feels due to regress to the mean. He may never be an elite sharpshooter again, but odds are, he’s better than he looked last season. If he can even split the difference, he’ll be a good addition.

On the other hand, Randle’s value to the Suns wouldn’t only be contingent on his shooting. It’s fair to say that Randle is also an above-average playmaking forward. That could come in handy in terms of conserving the 37-year-old Chris Paul for the postseason.
Can the Knicks afford to lose his playmaking?
