Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
When the Bulls assembled a trio of DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic, there was a consensus: this group should thrive on offense, but it could struggle on defense.
Sometimes, the consensus is just right. The Bulls had a fine 2021-22 season. On the other hand, 46 wins and a first-round exit felt a little short of hopes, if not expectations. With that said, DeRozan isn’t the star player most would have them replacing this offseason.
That would be Nikola Vucevic. Granted, his limitations as a defender are arguably more significant than anyone else’s. Many would suggest that center is the most important defensive position. With that said, there are other ways this team could upgrade their defense.
Like, for example, acquiring Andrew Wiggins. Of course, there’s another effect here. Upgrading Vucevic from the third to second option would allow him to actually use his playmaking abilities.

Last year, he looked out of sorts at times. Meanwhile, the offense would run through LaVine – and at this point, it probably should anyway.
Who knows? If all goes well, the Bulls could be the ones surprising some people this season.
