Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
Realistically, the interesting question is not “why do the Grizzlies do this deal?”. The answer is obvious: to land Kevin Durant.
Instead, we should be asking ourselves whether the Grizzlies meet the criteria a team ought to in order to do so.
They do. Firstly, and most importantly, the Grizzlies have a co-star for Durant in Ja Morant. The pairing is perfect – Durant spaces the floor, while Morant collapses the defense. Opposing teams would be picking their poison, and between a Morant dunk and a KD jump shot, both choices are lethal.
Furthermore, the Grizzlies would have solid supporting players around their new star duo as well. Granted, losing Brook hurts, but Desmond Bane looks like a viable option as the third-best player on a title-winning team.

Otherwise, Steven Adams, Tyus Jones, and Brandon Clarke are all quality role players. This deal would make the Grizzlies frightening.
In fact, it could make their fanbases’ wildest dreams come true.
