Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal.
There was a real temptation to send Ivica Zubac to the Hornets here.
They sure could use him. Moreover, his trade value isn’t so far off from Hayward’s. Ultimately, we figured that the Clippers would pass – Zubac is the only true big man on this roster, and the Clippers will need him in 2022-23.
Instead, we’ve got the Hornets simply getting off of Hayward’s contract. This deal likely won’t make them better in 2022-23, but it does improve their flexibility moving forward. Perhaps more importantly, it improves their potential.
That’s because Boston Jr. is joining the squad. He’s flashed potential as an isolation scorer, and his run-and-jump athleticism should make him a perfect fit with the uptempo Hornets.

The other two players here are just for matching salary. Don’t be surprised if both Jackson and Morris Sr. end up on different teams eventually – although, Morris Sr. does make up some of the front court spacing the Hornets lost in Bridges.
Could the Clippers really send out three players just to return one?
