Miami Heat Land Mike Conley

Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, C Omer Yurtseven, 2023 First-Round Pick (MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: G Mike Conley

When the Miami Heat acquired Kyle Lowry at last year’s trade deadline, the move was met with much optimism. Rightfully so – Lowry is old, but there was every reason to assume he’d be a sufficient point guard for a deep Heat squad.

If the 2021-11 postseason was any indication, the Heat may now have a problem. Lowry looked every bit of 36-years-old, as his production fell off a cliff.

In fairness, Lowry was supposedly dealing with some nagging injuries. Still, something else is nagging us – the feeling that the Heat could use some depth at the point guard spot.

Conley, of course, is aging in his own right. Still, he’s likely to be a valuable player in 2022-23. By acquiring him, the Heat would have two former All-Stars at the point guard position. By shadowing each other, Lowry and Conley would also be preserving each other for the postseason. Combined, they’ll surely be enough to man the position.

Meanwhile, we know the Jazz have an incentive to ship off their veterans. As an aging, undersized point guard, Conley is probably not going to land them a first-round pick unless they’re trading with a desperate contender. With that in mind, they ought to give the Heat a call.
